Associate Director, Digital Advertising: Boutique Digital Healthcare Agency

Our client is a boutique digital advertising agency focused primarily on the healthcare and medtech sector headquartered in Seattle with additional remote employees across the US. They are known for their marketing savvy and technical expertise in developing and executing digital strategies that deliver exceptional business performance. The agency creates business value by working in close partnership with its clients to gain a deep understanding of their businesses and then use data science, deep expertise and technology to surface and deliver on the most valuable opportunities for clients.
They seek an Associate Director, Digital Advertising to act as the operational heartbeat of the digital advertising team. The ideal candidate is a digital advertising expert who raises the quality of client work across the team -- not by managing from above, but by bringing deep platform mastery, sharp strategic thinking, and a high bar for execution to everything we do. You'll serve as a senior practitioner and thought leader for our strategists and analysts, setting the standard for how we approach client challenges and ensuring our recommendations are grounded in both data and competitive insight.
You know digital advertising inside and out -- from strategic framework to platform-level execution. You stay current on platform updates and industry trends not just for your own development, but because your clients deserve an advisor who is always a step ahead. Your influence on the team comes through the work: the feedback you give, the standards you set, and the thinking you model every day. The Associate Director reports directly to the Head of Digital Advertising and will manage a team of approximately 6 direct reports.
Responsibilities:
Client Strategy & Oversight
- Serve as a senior strategic voice on client engagements, ensuring recommendations are grounded in data, competitive context, and a clear understanding of client business goals
-Review and elevate client-facing strategy before delivery, providing substantive feedback that sharpens thinking and raises the quality of every recommendation
-Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships through proactive insights, trend analysis, and strategic counsel that goes beyond the immediate ask
- Partner with Account Management to understand client priorities and ensure the team's work is consistently connected to meaningful business outcomes
Team Excellence
-Oversee daily team operations including workload distribution, capacity planning, and quality assurance on all deliverables
-Develop, document, and refine standard operating procedures and best practices that enable scalability
-Ensure adherence to the company’s methodology, standards, and processes across all client work
-Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve team productivity
Technical Expertise & Platform Knowledge
-Serve as the digital advertising subject matter expert across Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, programmatic, and emerging channels
-Stay current on platform updates, algorithm changes, new features, and industry best practices -- particularly those affecting healthcare advertising (privacy regulations, compliance requirements, targeting restrictions, tracking constraints, etc.)
-Provide hands-on technical guidance when team members encounter complex campaign challenges
-Share platform insights with the broader team through training sessions and knowledge-sharing forums
Team Leadership & Development
-Guide and mentor strategists and analysts through regular feedback, coaching, and bi-annual performance reviews -- with an emphasis on elevating the quality of their strategic thinking
-Support individual growth by identifying development opportunities and connecting team members to the experiences, training, and stretch assignments that advance their capabilities
-Foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and high standards -- where the work itself is the measure
-Deliver constructive feedback in kind, direct ways that help people grow
Requirements:
- 8+ years managing digital advertising campaigns for diverse clients in the healthcare or MedTech industries
- Deep technical expertise across Google Ads, Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and programmatic platforms
- Strong experience with campaign strategy, budget management, performance optimization, and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a senior strategic voice with clients -- presenting recommendations clearly, influencing decisions, and building trust as a long-term advisor
- Experience working in digital agency environments managing multiple clients, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously
- Proven ability to elevate the work of others through strategic guidance, rigorous feedback, and high standards -- whether or not you held a formal management title
- Strong operational mindset with experience in process improvement and workflow optimization
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data and platform insights into strategic recommendations that resonate with both clients and internal teams
- Proficiency in analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) and advanced Excel/Google Sheets
- Experience conducting performance reviews and providing developmental feedback
- Google Ads, Meta Blueprint, and other platform certifications preferred
- Experience with Amazon Ads, TikTok, programmatic audio/podcast, or OTT/CTV preferred
- Background building or scaling teams in high-growth environments preferred
